What the video caption generator does
Upload a short video or audio clip and this tool transcribes the speech with word-level timing, then lets you download .srt or .vtt subtitle files. The transcription runs entirely in your browser using a Whisper AI speech model compiled to WebAssembly, so your footage is never uploaded. Choose how many words appear per caption, from true word-by-word (the Reels and TikTok style) to comfortable multi-word lines.
Why caption your videos
Most social video is watched on mute, and captions dramatically lift watch time, reach and accessibility. Dedicated apps like Submagic, Captions and CapCut charge a monthly fee for auto-captioning. This tool does the core job, accurate word-timed subtitles, for free, and keeps your unpublished content on your own device.
How to use it
- Upload a video or audio clip (MP4, MOV, WebM, MP3 or WAV) under about five minutes.
- Wait while it transcribes. The speech model downloads once (~150 MB) and is cached for next time.
- Set words per caption — 1 for word-by-word, or a few for grouped lines.
- Download the .srt or .vtt file and import it into your editor or upload it alongside your video.
Using the subtitle file
- CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci, Final Cut: import the .srt to get an editable, styleable caption track.
- YouTube: upload the .srt in the subtitles section of your video.
- Web players: use the .vtt file with the HTML5
<track>element.
Good to know
- Everything runs locally, your video and audio never leave your device.
- AI transcription is very good but not perfect, skim the result and fix names, brands or jargon before publishing.
- Burned-in captions on an exported MP4 are planned for a future update; for now you export standard subtitle files that work everywhere.
