Calculate your zakat in a couple of minutes

Working out zakat means adding up several kinds of wealth, subtracting what you owe, and checking the total against nisab. This free calculator does the arithmetic for you in any currency: enter your assets and debts, add today's gold or silver price, and it tells you your net zakatable wealth, whether it is above nisab, and exactly how much zakat you owe. It runs entirely in your browser, so your financial details stay private.

How zakat works

  • Rate: zakat is 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth.
  • Held for a year: it applies to wealth you have held above nisab for one lunar year.
  • Nisab: the threshold, equal to the value of 85g of gold or 595g of silver. Many use the lower silver value so more people benefit.

What to include

  • Cash and savings in hand and in the bank.
  • Gold and silver you own, at market value.
  • Investments: the zakatable portion of shares, funds and crypto.
  • Business assets: stock and cash held for trade.
  • Money owed to you that you expect back.
  • Debts due now are subtracted from the total.

Everyday personal belongings, your home and your car are not zakatable.

Nisab and today's prices

Because nisab is tied to the price of gold and silver, it moves with the market. Enter today's price per gram for gold or silver and the calculator converts it into the nisab value in your currency, then compares it with your net wealth to tell you whether zakat is due. Using the silver nisab, which is usually lower, means zakat becomes due sooner, which is the more cautious and generous choice.

An estimate, not a ruling

This tool helps you calculate; it is not a religious ruling. There are genuine differences of scholarly opinion on some assets, such as pensions, shares, jewellery in regular use, and certain debts. Use this to get a clear working figure, then confirm anything you are unsure about with a qualified scholar or your local zakat authority. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

Zakat Calculator, frequently asked questions

How is zakat calculated?

Zakat is 2.5% of the net wealth you have held for one lunar (Islamic) year, provided that wealth is above the nisab threshold. You add up your zakatable assets, cash and savings, gold and silver, investments, business assets and money owed to you, subtract debts that are due, and pay 2.5% of what remains. This calculator does that for you and checks it against nisab.

What is nisab?

Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth you must have before zakat is due. It is set at the value of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. Many scholars recommend using the lower silver value as the threshold, so that more people become eligible to pay and more of the poor benefit. Enter today's gold or silver price per gram and the tool works out the nisab value in your currency.

What counts as zakatable wealth?

Generally: cash in hand and in bank accounts, the value of gold and silver you own, the zakatable portion of investments like shares, funds and crypto, business stock and cash held for trade, and loans you have given that you expect to be repaid. You then subtract immediate debts you owe. Personal items like your home, car and everyday belongings are not zakatable.

Do I pay zakat on gold jewellery I wear?

Scholars differ on this. Some hold that gold and silver jewellery in regular personal use is exempt, while others hold that all gold and silver is zakatable regardless of use. This calculator lets you include whatever value you choose; decide based on the opinion you follow, and ask a scholar if you are unsure.

When is zakat due?

Zakat becomes due once your zakatable wealth has stayed above nisab for one full lunar year. Many people pick a fixed date each year, often in Ramadan, to calculate and pay it. If your wealth dips below nisab during the year, the timing can reset, so use a consistent annual date and recalculate then.

Is this a religious ruling?

No. It is a practical estimate to help you calculate, not a fatwa. Zakat has genuine differences of opinion on some assets (pensions, shares, jewellery in use, certain debts). For your specific situation, confirm with a qualified scholar or your local zakat authority.

Is my financial information private?

Yes. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to a server or saved, which matters for personal financial details.
