Measure and improve your typing
This test times how quickly and accurately you can type a short passage, then reports your speed in words per minute along with your accuracy. It is a simple way to benchmark where you are today and track your progress over time.
What the numbers mean
- Words per minute (WPM): How many words you type in a minute, the standard measure of typing speed.
- Accuracy: The share of characters you typed correctly, shown as a percentage.
What counts as a good speed
- Around 40 WPM is the average for most people.
- 60 to 80 WPM is considered fast and comfortable for most office work.
- Professional typists often exceed 90 WPM with high accuracy.
How to type faster
- Favour accuracy first, then let speed build naturally as your fingers learn the layout.
- Keep your fingers on the home row and avoid looking at the keyboard.
- Practise in short, regular sessions rather than occasional long ones.
